More than 80% of global investors plan to significantly or moderately increase their investment allocation in China in the next 12 months, despite the uncertain trade situation, according to a survey released on Monday by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) of invsco.
According to the survey, only 4% of the surveyed investors plan to reduce their investment in China.
"The vigorous growth of China's economy and continued efforts to ease market access are an important and increasingly attractive opportunity for domestic and global investors." Said Marty Flanagan, President and CEO of Jingshun.
The China position survey surveyed 411 asset owners and professional investors in North America, the Asia Pacific region and Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with assets under management ranging from $500 million to more than $10 billion.
According to the survey results, nearly 90% of respondents have "special investment allocation" in China. "Special" here refers to those investments only aimed at China, not other categories of investments such as broader regions or emerging markets, or including specific allocation of stocks, fixed income or alternative assets through management funds, ETFs or other investment instruments.
About two-thirds of the other 10 per cent who did not specifically allocate to China said they would still invest in China through a global, Asian or emerging market basket of currencies. The respondents, who did not specifically allocate institutions in China, said that the biggest challenge facing China was "lack of transparency in the financial system of foreign investors" (39.5%).
