A spokesman for the government strongly condemned the demonstrations, road blocking activities and all kinds of violence that took place in many parts of Hong Kong from Monday to Wednesday, saying that these illegal demonstrations seriously affected other citizens and that the violence endangered their safety.
In a statement issued early Thursday morning, the government said that in the past few days, there have been demonstrators blocking roads in many areas, people have placed nails on the road, piled up debris on the train tracks, damaged buses and public facilities, and threw gasoline bombs at trains carrying passengers. In addition, masked people gathered in different places, throwing objects at high altitude, damaging and setting fire in shopping malls, toll booths of undersea tunnels and other places, attacking police officers and other citizens, resulting in injuries to many citizens, some of whom are still in danger.
"The violence of the rioters is even more dangerous, which seriously threatens the safety of the general public and police officers. The HKSAR Government strongly condemns demonstrators and thugs for their disregard of law and discipline and for depriving other citizens of their freedom and rights. " The spokesman said.
After yesterday's near paralysis of traffic throughout Hong Kong, the situation improved on Thursday morning, but it has not yet fully returned to normal. The transport department said that all lines of MTR (0066. HK) were maintained, but some stations were temporarily closed. As for the eastern line, Shatin to Luohu and Lok Ma Chau stations, they were temporarily closed. Due to the continued damage to roads and road facilities, franchised buses can only provide limited services, especially in the East, West and Kowloon of the new territories.
