U.S. President trump said Thursday he has asked Apple CEO cook to consider helping the U.S. develop 5g wireless network communication infrastructure.
"They have everything they need - money, technology, vision and cook!" Trump tweeted. But he didn't elaborate on what he expected apple to contribute.
It is reported that Apple has not invested in 5g communication infrastructure and has not released 5g devices so far.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Some of Apple's rivals in the smartphone market have released 5g devices, most notably Samsung Electronics (005930. KS).
According to research firm strategy analytics, apple is expected to release its first 5g mobile phone in 2020, which will be able to beat Samsung Electronics and Huawei by the end of next year and win the throne of 5g smart phone market.
