Japan's exports fell 7.9% year-on-year in November, less than the 8.6% expected by analysts surveyed by Reuters, according to official data released on Wednesday.
This is the longest decline in Japan's exports for 14 months in a row as of November 2016. The downturn in export data is mainly due to the decline in exports of automobiles and construction machinery to the United States and the decline in exports of chemical products to China.
"Exports are very weak. Even in terms of exports, there was no recovery in November. " Said Wu Tianchun, chief analyst of Itochu Research Institute.
In terms of export volume, exports in November fell 5.0% year on year, the largest decline since August, the fourth consecutive month of decline.
Data released last week showed that Japan's economy expanded much faster in the third quarter than it had initially expanded, as tough domestic demand and corporate spending offset the impact of falling exports and Global trade tensions on economic growth.
By region, Japan's exports to China, the largest trading partner, fell 5.4% year-on-year in November, the ninth consecutive month due to lower exports of chemical products and auto parts.
In November, Japan's exports to Asia fell 5.7% year-on-year, mainly due to a decrease in exports to Thailand. Exports to Asia account for more than half of Japan's total exports.
