U.S. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer on Monday listed documents he hopes will serve as evidence in the trial of President Trump's impeachment, including emails and other communications held by the White House and the State Department.
In a letter to 99 other senators, Schumer wrote that his refusal to provide the documents to the Senate was a deliberate disregard for the facts listed in the house of Representatives' abuse of Trump's power and impeachment of Congress last week.
Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader of the U.S. Senate, said Thursday that he and Schumer are still at loggerheads, and that the two sides still disagree on the Democratic Party's request for four senior government officials to testify and the documents included in the trial record.
Republican president trump has been accused of abusing power and obstructing congressional investigations, but he denies wrongdoing.
The Senate may begin impeachment in January, but there is no exact date, as Democrats and Republicans still disagree on the rules of the trial.
