A spokesman for Huawei Technologies said Monday that the Indian government has approved Huawei to participate in the country's 5g network test.
Huawei was allowed to participate in India's 5g network test against the background that US sanctions on Huawei complicate the launch of global 5g technology. The US has been lobbying its allies not to use Huawei equipment in 5g networks.
Cnbc-tv18, an Indian television channel, was the first to report the news, citing a senior Indian official. The channel said the officials said the test would take place in January next year.
India's telecommunications sector could not be immediately reached for comment as it is currently non working time.
Cnbc-tv18 reported that India's telecommunications sector will meet with operators on December 31 to determine the time of 5g network test. It also said that all wireless operators in India have been approved in principle for the test. "
