Thai authorities said Monday that a Chinese woman has been quarantined in Thailand for infecting a mysterious coronavirus, the first time the virus has been found outside China.
Thai authorities are stepping up airport monitoring ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday on January 25, when hundreds of thousands of Chinese tourists are expected to visit.
According to a report released on Saturday by the health and Health Commission of Wuhan City, China, 41 cases of pneumonia with new coronavirus infection were preliminarily diagnosed, including two discharged cases, seven severe cases and one death. The rest of the patients were in stable condition. 739 close contacts, including 419 medical staff, have been subject to medical observation and no relevant cases have been found. At present, there is no evidence of new cases and human to human transmission.
"No new cases have been detected since 3 January 2020. At present, no medical staff infection has been found and no clear evidence of human to human transmission has been found, "the circular said.
According to the report, the survey found that the patients were mainly the operators and purchasers of South China seafood wholesale market in Wuhan. The Thai health ministry said the woman who was quarantined on Wednesday had been treated and was now ready to go home.
