First case identified outside China
On January 13, a Chinese national traveling in Thailand was the first confirmed case of infection with the new coronavirus outside China, according to the WHO.
“The possibility of cases being identified in other countries was not unexpected, and reinforces why WHO calls for ongoing active monitoring and preparedness in other countries,” said the WHO in a statement.

The World Health Organization said Tuesday that a new coronavirus found in China may have limited human to human transmission among family members and may cause a broader outbreak.

Coronavirus is a kind of pathogen that can cause infection from common cold to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Thai authorities said Monday that a Chinese woman has been quarantined in Thailand for infecting a mysterious coronavirus, the first time the virus has been found outside China.

A total of 41 cases of pneumonia have been reported in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, and preliminary laboratory tests quoted by state media suggest that they may have come from a new coronavirus infection. At present, there has been a death among the infected. The victim was a patient with a serious underlying disease. Since January 3, 2020, clinical and epidemiological surveys have revealed no new infections or deaths in patients, the Wuhan health and Health Commission said Tuesday.
Maria van kerkhove, acting director of emerging diseases at who, said: "from the information we have, the virus may have limited interpersonal transmission, possibly among family members, but it is very clear that there is no sustained interpersonal transmission."
