What is the source of new coronavirus infection? It's still up in the air. On January 24, Zhu huaiqiu, a professor from Beijing University of technology, published "deep learning algorithm to predict the host and infectivity of new coronavirus" on the bio rxiv prepress platform. The paper pointed out that bats and minks may be two potential hosts of new coronavirus, among which minks may be intermediate hosts. In this study, VHP (virus host prediction) method based on deep learning algorithm is used to predict the potential host of new coronavirus. Today, Zhu huaiqiu confirmed the above news to reporters.
The research of Zhu huaiqiu's team shows that compared with the coronavirus infecting other vertebrates, the bat SARS like coronavirus has a more similar infection pattern with the new type of coronavirus. In addition, by comparing the infection patterns of all hosts in vertebrates, we found that the infection patterns of mink virus were closer to the new coronavirus. This means that bats and minks may be two potential hosts of the new coronavirus.
As for the infectivity of the new coronavirus, the team's research shows that all six genomes of the new coronavirus are highly likely to infect humans. The predicted results indicate that the new coronavirus has a strong potential to infect human beings similar to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS CoV), bat SARS like CoV and mers cov.
In addition, on January 23, Shi Zhengli, a researcher of Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, published an article "the discovery of a new coronavirus and its possible bat origin" on the biorxiv prepress platform. Bat is the most likely natural host of the new coronavirus, which is 96% identical to the ratg13 coronavirus found in Rhinolophus yunnanensis, the study said.
Recently, China's Center for Disease Control and prevention has successfully isolated the first virus species in China for the first time, and published its electron micrograph. Experts believe that this progress has laid a good foundation for the next step to study the pathogenesis of the virus and research and development of related drugs.
