The Japanese government said Friday that the effective date of listing the new coronavirus as a "designated infectious disease" would be advanced from February 7 to Saturday. The third chartered plane to evacuate Japanese citizens from Wuhan has arrived in Japan.
At present, 14 cases of new coronavirus have been confirmed in Japan. Two of them returned to Japan on the first chartered plane without symptoms.
Japan's chief cabinet secretary, Kan Yiwei, said he would deny entry to any infected people and consider more stringent screening of suspected cases.
At a press conference, Mr Kan said the Japanese government would consider paying for charter flights to evacuate Wuhan. Opposition lawmakers have criticized the policy of charging 80000 yen ($730) per passenger.
Japan's Government on Tuesday classified the new coronavirus as a designated infectious disease, which would allow for compulsory medical treatment, stricter screening of people entering the country and other measures such as using public funds for treatment.
According to the regulations, the announcement will only take effect on February 7.
