At the beginning of 2020, the South Korean government took the lead in announcing the goal of 6G business time globally on January 7. It plans to make South Korea the first country in the world to launch 6G business services in 2028. At this time, it is less than a year since South Korea took the lead in opening 5g business on April 3, 2019. Earlier, South Korea announced to be the first 5g commercial country in the world hours before the United States in order to be the first to "seize the beach". This series of actions shows the strong demand of South Korea to seize the dividend of future scientific and technological change.

According to statistics of the Ministry of science, technology, information and communication of South Korea, by the end of December 2019, 5g network in South Korea has carried one fifth (20.4%) of all network traffic in the country, and 5 million 5g users account for about one tenth of the total population of South Korea, and the user development is far beyond the expectation of operators. In addition, in less than nine months, SKT, KT and LG U + operators have completed the deployment of 85 cities in South Korea, covering 93% of the population and deploying about 190000 base stations. This series of data not only refreshes the history of Korean communication industry, but also sets a record of 5g development in the world. In the first year of 5g business, the "Korean speed" attracted the world's attention, and the "Korean model" behind it also aroused people's thinking.
In the statistics of 5g users carried out by the Global Association for mobile communication systems in July 2019, South Korea had 1.65 million 5g users by the end of June of that year, accounting for 77.5% of the total number of users in the world, 10 times more than the second ranked UK (150000), 16 times more than the United States (100000). South Korea's layout of 5g commercialization is not only "the earliest in the world", but also has set up the goal of "the strongest in the world" from the beginning.
