Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday urged people not to gather in groups of more than 500, as health officials warned millions of residents that they would be infected with the coronavirus within a few months.
Australia has recorded 156 influenza like infections and three deaths, but authorities expect this to increase rapidly in the coming weeks as the southern hemisphere winter approaches.
Morrison said his government would start Monday advising against unnecessary gatherings of more than 500 people, not including schools, airports or public transport, as it was eager to curb the spread of the virus.
Morrison told reporters in Sydney that Australians should also reconsider their need for any overseas travel.
