South Korea said it would send medical equipment to the us to fight the coronavirus after US President Donald Trump urgently asked for it, promising that he would help South Korean companies get approval from the US government.
The news sent the stock prices of South Korean makers of kits for the virus soaring, highlighting the divergent path taken by the two countries since the first cases of the virus were found on the same day.
After the massive early outbreak, South Korea launched extensive tests within a few days and quickly launched a positive plan to isolate confirmed cases and track their links.
It has won praise for slowing the spread of the disease with relatively small interruptions and just 125 deaths, and has reduced the number of new infections to less than 100 per day for the past 13 consecutive days.
Initial tests in the United States were few and parts of the country have been shut down, with rapid outbreaks in many states, with thousands of new cases breaking out every day.
In a statement released Tuesday night, the office of the Korean Blue Palace said Trump told the president moon Jae in 23 minutes of telephone that he would help Korean producers get approval from the FDA.
