Since the outbreak in Andean countries, Chile has confirmed more than 1000 confirmed cases of coronavirus, one of the highest records in Latin America.
The Ministry confirmed 1142 cases and said three people died in the outbreak. The South American country has reported 220 newly confirmed cases in the past 24 hours.
Chile, unlike its neighbour Argentina, has yet to implement national segregation. Instead, officials have chosen to impose increasingly stringent restrictions within a few days to isolate the sick and control the spread of the virus.
Earlier this week, Chile banned travel to and from several remote areas of the country, including Easter Island in the South Pacific and port Williams, the southernmost city in the world, to prevent further spread in remote areas with limited health care.
