Simon McDonald, deputy foreign minister and head of foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, said on Tuesday that the British government's decision to allow Huawei China to participate in the UK's 5g network construction is not easy to change, and as far as he knows, the government will not discuss the decision again.
In January, the British government decided to allow Huawei to participate in the construction of what the government called the non sensitive part of the 5g network, but limit its participation to 35%.
Asked if he would suggest that the foreign minister try to change the government's position on Huawei, McDonald told lawmakers, "as you know, the government has decided to make an investment, but the conditions are very strict... As far as I know, this is a decision that is not easy to change and will not be discussed again."
"China is a very important partner of the UK. I think we can continue to push forward Huawei's decision and have the strategic independent relationship I have been talking about. We can have both."
