Georgia's governor, Brian Kemp, a Republican and trump ally, allowed businesses such as beauty salons, tattoo shops and bowling alley to reopen as soon as Friday. Trump said Georgia did not comply with federal guidelines, requiring states to restart their economies.
"It's too early. I think it's too early, "trump said. "They can wait longer, just a little - not much. Because security has to dominate. We have to have that. "
Georgia has more than 20000 cases of covid-19 and more than 800 deaths.
But trump, in his daily pandemic briefing, largely predicted optimism about the country's fight against the virus. He said he encouraged other states to start opening their economies and easing restrictions.
Anthony Fauci, Trump's top pandemic adviser, said the mitigation strategy was working, laying the foundation for states to reopen. He urged camp to be cautious.
"If I give advice to the governor, I'll tell him, be careful, I'll tell him not to turn on the switch," Fauci said He added that Georgia could see the virus rebound, further damaging the state's economy.
