Vodafone group (VOD. L), the world's second-largest mobile operator, warned that the UK's desire to lead the world in 5g technology would face a major blow if it decided to exclude Huawei from telecommunications infrastructure.
"If mobile operators have to spend time and money replacing existing devices, the UK will lose its leadership in 5g," Scott petty, Vodafone's UK chief technology officer, told Reuters in an email statement.
Petty said the UK government should try to expand 5g coverage and invest in the next phase of the technology, rather than excluding Huawei's equipment.
"We're not limited to one supplier, but it's important to understand the level of risk involved." He also said Vodafone was working with Ericsson（ ERICb.ST ）Cooperate and test new supplier's equipment.
